Marshall has carved out an almost sui generis role in contemporary culture in doing highly intelligent interviews with a wide range of serious philosophers, and doing so in terms that are intelligible to those outside philosophy, indeed, intelligible in almost all cases to any educated person. He has been a Head of English, a Head teacher, an educational consultant working on the Building Schools for the Future initiative and other projects. He has been a contributing editor for 3ammagazine since 2001.
