This monograph focuses on design and fabrication of permanent magnet transducer for harvesting the electric energy from kinetic (vibration) energy. It provides the fundamental principles of electromagnetism and describes how the electromotive force (emf) is developed as the product of ux linkage gradient and velocity. Vibration-driven energy harvester is modelled as a mass-spring-damper system and it also provides the factors that affect the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical power. Simulations were performed in COMSOL multiphysics platform and results are discussed. Hardware setup of permanent magnet energy harvester is made and experimental results are tabulated with analysis. Results from the developed models are compared with previously reported experimental results for an electromagnetic transduction mechanism. The performance of permanent magnet energy harvester is studied in the power loom unit of textile industry and it is found that good amount of energy is generated in normal operating environment. The research study and experiment shows that the proposed harvester finds prime place in energy harvesting sector in near future.
