Dental implants have become an indispensable established therapy in dentistry in order to replace missing teeth providing a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth. Dental implants seem to represent a safe treatment option with regards to anatomical & intra-individual limiting factors. Nevertheless, in the last decades increasing evidence raised on the presence of peri-implant inflammations representing one of the most frequent complications affecting both the surrounding soft and hard tissues, which can lead to the loss of the implant. However, due to increased incidence of peri-implant diseases involving both soft and hard tissues the success of dental implants has been compromised. So, the knowledge of various etiological and risk factors should be clearly understood for better prevention and management of peri-implant diseases.
