Panfacial fractures are rare in children, and surviving panfacial fractures is even rarer. This is because the high forces causing this type of injury are enough to seriously endanger the cranium and brain and result in a higher mortality rate among these small patients. The principles involved in the treatment of facial trauma are the same, whatever the age of the patient. However, in the treatment of children, the techniques used are necessarily modified by certain anatomical, physiological and psychological factors specifically related to childhood. An important feature of facial injuries in children results from the influence of trauma on facial development.
