This book explores the everyday practices of border control and implementation of mobility policy in the European Schengen area by analyzing consular visas services on the edges of the territory. Focusing on the case of outsourcing three Schengen states visa services in Morocco (Belgium, France, and Italy consular posts), the author analyzes the processes leading to public/private governance of the Schengen visa policy as well as the effective policy-making of state and private actors. Drawing from public policies, implementation studies, new public management, and migration control for her analysis, this book fuses academic literatures that are often separated and sheds light on the ways in which the private actors impact and help shape the Schengen visa policy and politics."
