Outlaws in the Big Woods is a collection of stories based on factual cases by Wildlife Officers enforcing Fish and Game Regulations. Many of the locales and details have been changed. Some stories are combined with other similar cases and are told to entertain and inform the public about the extremely interesting and often dangerous job Wildlife Officers are engaged in. The extent wildife violators will go to is often amazing as well as amusing. Most of thesr cases took place years ago in the Northern part of Oregon in the Cascade and Coast Range Mountains. Both of thes mountain ranges are in close proximity to large masses of people. These mountians hold large numbers of Deer, Elk, Bear, Cougar, Salmon, Steelhead, Waterfowl and many species of small game and protected wildlife. The Wildlife Officer must know the areas well and try to cover it effectively with meager resources. The Author worked this area for most of his 25 years with Oregon State Police. He draws mainly from his own experiences and those he worked with closely. His initial book, "Outlaws on The Big River," dealt with his experiences on the Columbia River. This book was written in answer to the many requests by readers for more of the same.
