Judging by his well-built body, sparkling skin, red eyes and a strong deep voice, Omollo looked tough and capable of tackling whatever the impediment which the world could throw in his way. But deep down, he was quite insecure and credulous. As a case in point, he is manipulated by an unscrupulous preacher to rebel against his lovely family and community - the act which turns him into a restless traveler through Africa to Europe. In this wandering life, he tries to settle down in several places but a flaw in his character always leads to his being rejected and pushed forward. When he reaches the point of envying the food of the pigs, he comes to his senses and chooses to return home and apologize to his kinsfolk. But upon his return after an absence of fifty years in the West, almost everything in his motherland has become a pale shadow of its former glory. And whereas, he had expected a relief at his home environment, fate renders an unforeseen consequence instead. His kindred consider him stranger than the foreigners in the land of his ramblings.
