All energy sources affect the environment in which we live. While fossil fuels may essentially do more harm to the environment, renewable energy sources can also pose some challenges as they are not as benign as generally conceived. Recently, the world paid more attention to promoting renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro energy, geothermal, biomass) in order to meet the developing and growing energy needs. Unfortunately, the use of various renewable energy sources in disregard of their likely environmental impacts creates many environmental problems like ecosystem disruption, wildlife habitat displacement, pollution, radioactive wastes, and emission of methane from decomposed biomass reservoirs, all of which still contributes to global warming and climate change. The aim of this study focuses on the environmental impacts of alternative energy sources highlighting the pitfalls inherent in renewable energy because the alternatives to fossil can still produce real-world problems.
