Ibibio is a prominent minority language spoken in Akwa Ibom State, south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria by speakers who constitute the fourth largest group in the country. The major thrust of this book on the "Nonphrasal Categories in Ibibio" is a syntactic description and analysis of the INFL (Inflection) categories in the language which may not be classified as phrase or phrasal in the same manner as Noun Phrase, Verb Phrase, Prepositional Phrase, Adverbial Phrase or Adjectival Phrase. The work which deals with one of the nonphrasal categories apart from question and negation treats both the obligatory INFL categories (Agreement and Tense) as well as the optional INFL categories (Aspect and Mood) which are important in the language using the Government and Binding framework. It further explicates on the rare occurrence of infixes in the language to the extent that whereas the past tense morpheme for ana is a prefix, that for akpena is infixal."
