They eventually overthrew the late Le Dynasty and the Nguyen Lord in the South, the Trinh Lord in the North, established a new era for Tay Son Dynasty in 1777. During the Tay Son rebellion, Nguyen Hue, the youngest of the Tay Son brothers, was revered as the most successful military commander in Vietnamese history. He defeated 50,000 Siamese invader troop (Thailand) in 1785 in the famous one-day battle Rach Gam - Xoai Mut on the Me-Kong river. Four years later, his troop marched to the North, and once again, destroyed the 200,000 Chinese invader troop (Great Qing) in 1789 by another famous five-day battle Ngoc Hoi (nearby Ha Noi capital), earning himself the title "undefeated commander at all time." Due to all of Hue's military success, his brother, King Thai Duc, established Hue as Long Nhuong general (the dragon) and later on as Bac Binh Vuong (king who conquered the North). Nguyen Hue began his reign in 1788 as the Emperor Quang Trung, the second emperor of the Tay Son Dynasty in Vietnam. Unfortunately, Emperor Quang Trung died early at the age of 40. However, his conquests marked the beginning of approximately one century in which Vietnam was both unified and independent until the Western conquest of Vietnam in 1884. (NHAT THONG SON HA).
