While it could not comprehensively address every disorder, the examples are well chosen and highlight advances from diverse disciplines that are leading to major improvement in our understanding of these complex and often rare conditions. There is a problematic chapter on the "autisms," but the authors do an admirable job. They describe specific syndromes, rare genetic variants, and environmental etiologies.
