Nature has always been a source of inspiration for various creative disciplines. Artists, designers, and architects not only imitate natural forms and functions, but also take into account multi-layered backgrounds. This work explores how designers have been inspired by nature in aesthetic and functional aspects over the last 150 years. The historical and theoretical foundations of the three most important eras of this period are illustrated and explored in depth by three designers: Josep Maria Jujol, Alvar Aalto, and Ross Lovegrove, who have dealt particularly intensively with the aesthetic and functional aspects of nature, thus demonstrating the wide spectrum of designers' engagement with natural principles.
