This is a documentary study of little-known religious and funerary buildings throughout Southern India. It presents a survey of historical buildings in the Muslim communities and major towns of the region, which have previously been virtually unknown outside their own localities. Even locally, people tended to be familiar with only a few important local nearby shrines, and there was little awareness of a collective heritage. This is a record of the historic heritage of the area through an exploration of its architecture and built environment.

O autorze

Mehrdad Shokoohy is an architect and specialist in the conservations of urban environments. He is Chair of Architecture and Urban Studies at the University of Greenwich, and has a particular interest in the architecture and planning of the Middle East, South and Central Asia. His expertise extends to the fields of literature, history, archaeology, epigraphy and numismatics of these regions. For his contributions to South Asian studies he has been awarded the Degree of Doctor of Science by Heriot-Watt University and the Edinburgh College of Art.
