Muleta is a novel set in Spain in the early 80s where Camilla and Allasandro, twins who are separated as children by their uncle Alfonso, upon whom guardinship falls after their parents die in a small airplane crash. Allasandro, called Pito by his friends, a man in his early teenties, launches a notable struggle to win a matador championship in the arenas of Barcelona. Camilla is ensconced in a convent in the mountains of Catalonia from which she struggles to be released and to take her secret lover, the beautiful Bella, with her.
