She secures a major contract from Nichols. A powerful vice-president of Nichols, with connections to the mafia in Chicago, rapes her after a business dinner. He stalks and pursues her. She tries to avoid him by becoming Tour Photographer with a major rock group. In an intimate relationship with the road manager, she becomes addicted to cocaine. Nadine returns to discover her plant manager and his wife, her accountant, have skipped town, leaving her iron-on business in shambles including an accounting nightmare with unauthorized deductions using phony chargebacks involving over a hundred thousand dollars owing to her company. Many Nichols executives admit it is all an accounting error and promise she will receive her money immediately. Immediately turns into days, which turn into weeks, and then months. Nadine becomes suspicious and begins taping all telephone calls with anyone from G.D. Nichols. Executives of Nichols admit that the Vice-President, Buck Schwartz is behind the 'accounting error'. Promises are broken, more and more money is falsely deducted from the money owed to her. Desperate, she calls up the balance on a half-million dollar contract. Weird things happen. The chargebacks she had so painstakingly organized to determine the amount ordered are found the next morning all mixed together out-of-order. One morning, the tape machine only records her side of the conversation when she recorded a top executive with Nichols admitting Schwartz was behind the chargebacks. The executive admitted that another top executive with Nichols was up for an appointment to be President of the Federal Reserve, but in the vetting process, the FBI had discovered an accounting problem - and Nadine was the accounting problem Nadine accuses Nichols in cahoots with government agencies of trying to kill her, inject her with cancer cells. There are several attempted Hijackings. She is beaten, harassed, and beset by strange occurrences. Everyone, including her employees think she is paranoid for no reason. Her ex-husband, Stephen, the lawyer, threatens to commit her. Nadine insists that Nichols is setting her up; doing all this to affect her credibility. Everyone thinks she is crazy and has suffered a nervous breakdown. She begins to doubt her own sanity. Stephen forces her into therapy with a Psychiatrist, who mysteriously dies during a session Nadine did not keep.
