Tortoise has not learned from his past mistakes. This time, he gets into many troubles because of breaking the law of the land, greed, stealing, tricking, lying to his friends, being ungrateful to those who helped him, saying what is not true about others and keeping bad company. His character is full of contradictions, e.g., feeding a whole village versus tricking the villagers to be whipped for no reason. All the stories in this and other series narrating how tortoise came to have cracked shell simply show that every bad behavior has a consequence, just as every good behavior carries a reward. So, as parents use these stories to teach their children morals, they should also teach that the motif of doing something to satisfy our interest or for the 'general good' matters as much as the goal itself, and the 'how' and the 'what' should be based on unselfish motif.
