Shoot tip and nodal segment explants were used for multiple shoot induction of medicinal plants. For micropropagation all explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog's (MS) medium supplemented with various plant growth regulators. 7 and 5 min dipping in 0.1% HgCl2 was found most effective for surface sterilization of Ipomoea turpethum and Eclipta alba explant, respectively. Multiple shoot formation was observed from both shoot tip and nodal segment explants for both the studied plants. Ipomoea turpethum microcultings were rooted most effectively in full MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l NAA, while Eclipta alba rooted well in half MS containing 0.5 mg/l NAA. Propagated plantlets were successfully acclimatized in soil where they grew normally without showing any morphological abnormalities. In genetic transformation study hygromycin resistant calli and leaf discs of tomato were selected after co-cultivation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens resulted putative transformants.
