Gilles Néret (1933-2005) war Kunsthistoriker, Journalist, Schriftsteller und Ausstellungskritiker. Er organisierte mehrere Kunst-Retrospektiven in Japan und gründete das SEIBU Museum sowie die Galerie Wildenstein in Tokio. Er leitete Kunstzeitschriften wie L'_il und Connaissance des Arts und erhielt für seine Publikationen 1981 den Prix Élie Faure. Néret war Herausgeber von TASCHENs Monet und Velázquez und Autor von Dalí - Das malerische Werk, Matisse sowie Erotica Universalis.
