Most previous studies focused on the Libyan glass itself ignoring its hosting area. As a result, they did not report microscopic evidence of shock metamorphism, such as planar microstructures in the rock-forming minerals from the area, which delayed the proof of the meteorite impact hypothesis of the Libyan glass. The present study is concerned with the geology, petrography and chemistry of the Libyan glass area, southwestern Egypt between, latitudes 25° 02 -26° 13 N and longitudes 25° 24 -25° 55 E, to investigate the probability of meteorite impact effects. The diamondiferous material that was collected from the area during November/December 1996 expedition is considered as an important evidence for meteorite impact effects on the Libyan glass area.
