Violence against women is a multifaceted socio-historical phenomenon and constitutes a form of human rights violation, therefore requiring intervention with both men and women involved in the phenomenon. This study analysed the profile of men who commit violence against women based on the content of 211 reports of violence identified in the newspaper O Liberal do Estado do Pará, suggesting possible nursing strategies to address the problem. This is an exploratory study of a quantitative and qualitative nature using the statistical method and content analysis of Bardin (2011). It is believed that the prevention of violence against women does not depend exclusively on their empowerment, but must include transformations on the part of the perpetrator of violence. Thus, nurses play a fundamental role in caring for these men, as by joining forces with other professionals, they find support to act in the process of health education with perpetrators of violence and their families.
