According to the authors of this volume, any approach to statistics which ignores substantive and measurement issues, and any approach to measurement issues which ignores design and analytic question, fosters a lack of appreciation of the interrelations and interdependencies among the various aspects of the research endeavour. The goal of this text is to help readers become proficient in these aspects of research and their interrelationships, and to use that information in a more integrated manner.
