This book aims to investigate the contributing factors that impact the performance of IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Examination), Cambridge University, ESL Learners in Northern Region Schools, and The Capital Schools of Maldives. This research explores the situational differences among the secondary learners in the rural Northern Region and the Capital City of Maldives in terms of teacher qualification, availability of resources, students' learning styles and motivation, parent involvement, and support in ESL learning. The findings indicate that the students in the capital are at a greater advantage geographically as they are more exposed to the resources and are susceptible to greater exposure to the communicative and proper use of language. They are rich in vocabulary and intrinsic motivation for better performance in ESL. This study provides imperative details that could bring profound and proliferating changes to the development of curriculum and syllabi for Secondary learners to mitigate the disparity between the island schools and capital city schools.
