Rooted in a desire to not only build homes, but build communities, the 'Making a Place to Call Home' Youth Civic Education Module calls upon youth to creatively engage with their own communities. The Book was created by Renee Hopkins, a creative community change agent and a team from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell. The module invites youth to navigage the places and spaces in which they live, and define their role as community members within them. Moving from understanding habitats; to learning about building houses; creating homes; and forging communities. The program encourages youth to find their sense of 'place' with the community and underlines how to work together to help shape the future of the community they call home The module can be used by students, girl/boy scouts, vacation/church religious education groups, home school programs and other youth leadership groups. HFHGL Interfaith Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee will be working together to assist any groups in the future with this project and book. The main mission of this Educational module is to encourage "Faith Communities and Youth/school groups to work together for affordable housing and building a better Community together" Additional materials and updates will be availabe at the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell website under youth programs.
