In recent decades, the physics of strength and plasticity has been actively developing the direction of influence on the mechanical properties of solids by means of non-mechanical forces - external energetic influences. One of the types of nonmechanical influence on the material is a permanent magnetic field, the influence of which on the plastic deformation of nonmagnetic crystals of different physical nature is called the magnetoplastic effect. In diamagnetic crystals of bismuth type, plastic deformation is realized simultaneously by sliding and twinning. This monograph presents the main regularities of the magnetoplastic effect in microindentation of bismuth and antimony single crystals. The authors emphasize that instrumental effects under conditions of application of a constant magnetic field to the samples are completely excluded.
