Seneca, als gescheiterter Erzieher des Kaisers Nero berühmt geworden, stammte aus Cordoba. Seine Briefe an Lucilius sind eine Einführung in die Philosophie der Stoiker, deren Ideal es war, durch Gelassenheit und Seelenruhe weise zu werden. O autorze

Lucius Annaeus Seneca, genannt Seneca der Jüngere ( etwa im Jahre 1 in Corduba; 65 n. Chr. in der Nähe Roms), war ein römischer Philosoph, Dramatiker, Naturforscher, Staatsmann und als Stoiker einer der meistgelesenen Schriftsteller seiner Zeit. Dr. Rainer Nickel studierte Klassische Philologie in Marburg und Berlin und wurde 1970 in Berlin über ein philosophiegeschichtliches Thema promoviert. Der Altphilologe arbeitete zunächst als Lehrer für Latein und Griechisch, bevor er Leiter des Max-Planck-Gymnasiums in Göttingen wurde. Er ist Mitarbeiter der Reihe "Tusculum" und an der Herausgabe der Zeitschrift "Der altsprachliche Unterricht" beteiligt. Er zählt zu den führenden Didaktikern des altsprachlichen Unterrichts.
