Love Your Gay Neighbor tells the story of God, finds a reliable definition of love, shows how people in the Bible demonstrate that love, and equips you to love your gay neighbors. You will find answers to such questions as these: What happened to God? What caused Him to punish and destroy homosexuals in earlier times? Why does He write such things in his Book-what things happened that resulted in Him feeling the way He does about homosexual behavior? If God hates sin so much, why is He so patient with sinners? Is He a God of wrath or of love?-and how does this relate to homosexuality? From this book you will learn to love as God loves by understanding and sharing His views. Do not be fooled by my simple words and short sentences. "Theology" is the study of God, and telling the story of God is deeply theological. In this book you will discover things not taught in seminary, yet I deliberately write in plain English at the eighth grade reading level. This is true of both the theological and cultural vocabulary. The gay world has many words to describe its various sexual preferences. To avoid confusion and to make the language simple, this book uses only two words: homosexual and gay-both used in a gender-neutral way. Homosexual I use the word "homosexual" for a person who experiences sexual attraction for someone of the same sex. Such an attraction fits the category of temptation. Temptation is not sin. Temptation that is acted upon is sin. Many followers of Jesus endure tremendous same-sex attraction but never act on that temptation. They practice celibacy just as Jesus did. They do not define their lives by their sexual orientation but rather transcend this temptation the same way the alcoholic does who stands up at the AA meeting and says, "Hi. My name is insert name here], I am an alcoholic, and no alcohol has passed my lips in 37 years...." I am not sure why such persons continue to identify themselves by either their beverage or their sexual preferences, but since they do, I respect and use their vocabulary. Gay I use the word "gay" for a person who practices homosexual behavior whether in defiance or ignorance regarding the Bible's clear teaching against this sin. Some of these individuals are militant and vocal advocates of the homosexual cultural revolution that includes gay marriage. Many others quietly ignore the publicity and merely indulge their desires in private. Book I of this collection, The Big Picture, explains why both homosexuals and gays desperately need you to show them accurately the love that is of God. Book II, The Love Picture, gives many examples from the Bible of people who genuinely loved homosexual and gay neighbors. Book III, The Gay Picture, summarizes recent events making this book necessary while providing final instructions on how to love, and what the result of your loving is likely to be.
