Robert is a lion cub whose best friend has just been sent to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Robert is determined to join his friend at the zoo. He recruits a zany assortment of friends to help him in his endeavor. Unfortunately, they all have a lousy sense of direction. This leads to a variety of misadventures for the group of friends. They end up exploring several real-life locations throughout the southern United States before they finally reach their destination.
