Libraries have functioned for centuries as information systems whose main objective is to satisfy their end-users information needs. With the emergence of new forms of digital information sources, the users needs have become more complex and diverse. libraries have to cope with these developments to maintain their vital role as information providers. This book deals with the application of the theories of systems analysis to libraries, taking the University of Khartoum in Sudan as a case study. The purpose of the analysis is to determine the functional specifications of a proposed integrated library management system (ILMS) to be implemented by the library. This is introduced by reviewing a number of systems analysis theories and approaches with a focus on the Structural System Analysis and Design Method (SSADM) and its major tool the Data Flow Diagrams which have been employed to document the library system under study.
