Project Japan features hundreds of never-before-seen images master plans from Manchuria to Tokyo, intimate snapshots of the Metabolists at work and play, architectural models, magazine excerpts, and astonishing sci-fi urban visions telling the 20th century history of Japan through its architecture, from the tabula rasa of a colonized Manchuria in the 1930s to a devastated Japan after the war, the establishment of Metabolism at the 1960 World Design Conference in Tokoy, to the rise of Kisho Kurokawa as the first celebrity architect, to the apotheosis of Metabolism at Expo 70 in Osaka and its expansion into the Middle East and Africa in the 1970s. O autorze

Hans Ulrich Obrist ist künstlerischer Leiter der Serpentine Gallery, London. Zuvor war er Kurator des Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Seit seiner ersten Ausstellung "World Soup" (The Kitchen Show) im Jahr 1991 hat er mehr als 300 Ausstellungen kuratiert.

Rem Koolhaas ist Mitbegründer des Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Vor dem Architekturstudium arbeitete er als Journalist und Drehbuchautor. Im Jahr 1978 veröffentlichte er Delirious New York, a retroactive Manifesto for Manhattan. Sein Buch S,M,L,XL aus dem Jahr 1995 fasst die Arbeit von OMA zusammen und stellt Verbindungen zwischen der zeitgenössischen Gesellschaft und Architektur her. Neben vielen anderen internationalen Auszeichnungen und Ausstellungen erhielt er den Pritzker Prize (2000) und den Praemium Imperiale (2003). Im Jahr 2014 kuratierte er die ArchitekturBiennale in Venedig und veröffentlichte sein Buch Elements of Architecture, das aus seiner viel gelobten Ausstellung auf der Biennale hervorging.
