Kay pou Jubilee offers Hope. In one of the worst slums in the Western Hemisphere, a town ironically named "Jubilee," ultra-low-cost, disaster-resistant homes are being built. Jubilee is the garbage dump of Gonaives, Haiti, and has a population between 12,000 and 20,000. Unwanted people and trash are thrown away there. But changes are taking place. Homes are being built and along with them, hope and lives. Pastor Benoit, President of the Lutheran Church of Haiti, put out a challenge to develop technology to build earthquake- and hurricane resistant homes for a material cost of $1,000 US. While the goal was not reached, homes are being built for a material cost of less than $3,000 US. This book offers an example of what can be accomplished in trying places under austere conditions, in the hope that others will similarly challenge themselves. Homes for Jubilee is being published in English and Kay pou Jubilee is being published in Haitian Creole. The manuscript is available for translation into other languages. Please help us build a better world, one home at a time.
