Nobody knows when they are going to be suddenly single. Nor is it a state we generally care to contemplate. By "suddenly," I mean without warning or, if there have been some indications, not acknowledging them to the point of making adequate preparation. Single needs little explanation. It means alone. If you are in that space now, in whatever context or for whatever reason, I don't need to tell you how frightening it can be. Finding yourself suddenly single can also be overwhelming. There are so many decisions to be made, some of them immediately. Yet you are also grieving, which is all-consuming in itself. I know all about being suddenly single and I am fairly skilled at surviving it. In fact, I am possibly living testimony to a rich and rewarding life on the other side of being thrust into solitude. Until recently, I ran my own financial planning business called World Wise, which specialises in the counselling of newly single people in the management of their finances. But that is only part of the service. You can't deal with one aspect of a person's life without addressing the various others. Although financial healing is my stock in trade, emotional, physical, spiritual and mental recovery are equally important in the process of moving from bereft to whole again, and they have become interwoven into the experience of seeking my company's assistance, and also components of this book. My knowledge is a pastiche of my own personal experience, that of my many clients, the countless books I have read on the subject and the seminars I have attended. I am also guided by a greater power, whose kind and soulful wisdom who has led me from "alone" to "all one" several times, and for that I am immeasurably grateful.
