The Traveller community in Ireland constitute a small minority in Ireland and their situation in the Irish Education system is characterised by inequalities in access to and benefits from education. The overall aim of this book is the documentation of the educational needs of Travellers and the evaluation of the educational offers by Adult and Community Education institutions. A number of concerns exist in relation to the provisions of services for adult Travellers in Ireland such as the lack of a national Adult Education strategy, poor outcomes and low progression rates achieved by adult Travellers. Travellers should have equality of access, participation and outcome in a fully inclusive Education system that respects their identity and culture and where the Traveller community has the same chances and options as everybody else. This book is aimed at students and persons working in the areas of education, anthropoloy and culture as well as at anybody who is interested in (and loves) Ireland and its culture.
