The manuscript is a comprehensive study focusing on various aspects of modelling traffic noise and its control. The study presents a critical review of principal traffic noise models developed and adopted in recent years in developed nations. The research work utilizes the experimental database gathered from noise monitoring conducted at various sites in Delhi for developing a validated road traffic noise model. The accuracy of the model so developed is ascertained from the actual experimental database gathered. The research study also investigates the application of ARIMA and ANN methodology in time-series prediction of ambient noise levels. As long-term noise monitoring is quite cumbersome and expensive in Indian scenario, the study highlights the random noise monitoring strategy based on statistical analysis considering a case study of noise monitoring data gathered from 35 sites of seven major cities in India. The work pertaining to the passive noise control measures for transportation noise abatement highlights the design considerations involved in development of highly insulative sandwich window glazing based on application of Taguchi method and experimental studies.
