Johanna Nichols is Professor of Slavic linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research is on languages of the Caucasus, Slavic languages, linguistic typology, and historical linguistics. Ronald L. Sprouse is a researcher and programmer in the Linguistics Department at the University of California, Berkeley. His work is primarily in the areas of phonology, morphology, and phonetics.
