"We recommend that anesthesiologists caring for inguinal hernia patients read this book and use it as a reference. Giampiero Campanelli is arguably the world's foremost inguinal hernia surgeon, and his perspective on evidencebased approaches to the operation will give anesthesiologists the profound insight needed for well-informed discussions with the surgical team, resulting in improved outcomes for our shared patients." Giampiero Campanelli is Head of General Surgery – Day & Week Surgery Unit, Istituto Clinico Sant’Ambrogio, Milan and Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Insubria, Italy. He is a pioneer in Italy of sutureless, tension-free repair of inguinal hernia under local anesthesia. He is responsible for refining an original approach for the treatment of giant inguinal hernia, lumbar hernia, incisional hernia with loss of substance, spigelian hernia, pubic inguinal pain syndrome, and chronic postoperative pain. Professor Campanelli is principal investigator of the international TIMELI trial (randomized, controlled, patient- and evaluator-blinded study of Tissucol/Tisseel for MEsh fixation in patients undergoing the LIchtenstein technique for primary inguinal hernia repair) and principal author of the related article published in Annals of Surgery. He is also among the main authors of guidelines on prevention of chronic postoperative pain syndrome. Professor Campanelli has been an invited speaker at more than 500 international and national congresses. He has taken part in several humanitarian missions in the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Ecuador, and Paraguay to make his experience available to needy people and to teach local surgeons.
