Indias Foreign Policy towards Indonesia not only reflects warmth in bilateral relations, but it also indicates positive change in Indias perception of the region. Indias policies towards Southeast Asia not only reflect the change that has taken place in Indias perception of the region, it also reflects the transformation of international relations in the contemporary world of globalisation.The present Thesis seeks to highlight various dimensions of India-Indonesia close political relations during the Nehru period to the present strategic engagement that have evolved during 1991-2008, since the end of the Cold War era and subsequent announcement of Indias Look East Policy. The end of the Cold War coincided with Narsimha Raos Prime Ministers -hip in 1991. Indias response to new environment resulted in close ties between India and Southeast Asia with India becoming a dialogue partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995 and subsequently a member of ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in 1996. Interaction through these regional bodies further strengthened the bilateral relations between India and Indonesia.

Dr. Kamini Kumari Das has a Master Degree in Modern Indian History from Vinoba Bhave University, Jharkhand and MPhil Degree from Devi Ahilya Viswa Vidyalaya, Madhya Pradesh. Linking it to the Contemporary History of regional politics, she has successfully completed her PhD from Southeast Asian Studies Division of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
