'In the Blink of an Eye Second Edition' is an autobiographical account of courage and love. It is an extraordinary story: Ron has everything to live for. He is a happily married family man, much loved by his family and friends. Then he is left in a coma, and fighting for his life after being assaulted. Ron eventually regains consciousness, but he has severe brain damage; and he is wheel chair bound. Ron has virtually no memory of his past life, and the road to rehabilitation is long and winding. However Ron's sense of humour still prevails, and he can still share laughter with his family, even though he has lost so much, including the capability of giving or sharing marital love and affection. Jacqueline is Ron's wife, and she has loved Ron dearly for all of her adult life; there has never been another man for her. They have a son Chris, who was studying his 'A Levels' at the time of his father's assault, and they have a younger daughter Wendy, whom is profoundly deaf. Wendy has always worshipped, and looked up to her father. Now their roles had somewhat changed, and Wendy was finding it increasingly difficult to come to terms with her father's severe disabilities. The story is a frank, heartfelt, and a very sincere story; and touches on Ron and Jackie's life including life prior to the tragedy. This includes the birth of their children, and the facing together of the fact that their daughter is born profoundly deaf. The story goes on to tell of the dedication of Ron's family and in particular his best friend Bernard. Ron continues to need a lot of care from Jacqueline, and Bernard is very willing to help with Ron's care too. Visiting Ron whenever it is possible for him to do so, but in the process Jacqueline and Bernard become increasingly closer. Jacqueline and Bernard know that their feelings for each other are dangerous, and have the potential of hurting the people they love, and therefore ignoring their feelings for each other for a considerable length of time, until it is impossible for them to do so any longer. Their love is passionate and all consuming. Eventually caring for Ron as an unconventional family.
