This research used the self perceptions of both Mainland Chinese students and International Student Services Office (ISSO) staff to identify key support programs and services needed to achieve best practices that can be applied to creating an effective system to help international students acclimate to American campuses. This research study surveyed 217 Mainland Chinese students and 35 International Student Services Office staff from 14 selected colleges and universities in the Midwestern state of Illinois. This study compared the perceptions of Mainland Chinese students and those of ISSO staff about the adjustment problems Mainland Chinese students encountered in the process of their acculturation into American colleges and universities. Its findings revealed some differences in the respective perceptions concerning the effectiveness of ESL language support programs, extracurricular activities, academic advising, Chinese students helping out and cultural visits to local areas.

In 2005, her excellence at organizational change and communicative skills led her to the administrative position of Vice Dean at International Education College, Shenyang University of Technology, China. She completed her doctorate in the USA in 2011. She lives in Shenyang, China.
