Orthodontic therapy prior to the implant surgery should be performed during growth and development of the jaws. Its advantages include the correction of asymmetric mesio-distal spaces in the edentulous site, improper occlusion, midline discrepancy and other abnormal skeletal relationships. Implant insertion should be after final growth and proper occlusal stability have been achieved.
