Though treatment of bacterial endometritis with parenteral or intra-uterine infusion of antibacterial agents and entibiotics have met with varying degree of success but inconsistent recovery rate, high cost of treatment, milk disposal after antibiotic treatment and emergence of microbial resistance of antibacterial drugs are obvious disadvantages of their use. Moreover, antibacterial drugs have also been shown to markedly destroy the phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN cells), which are responsible for maintaining non-specific uterine defence. The authors have tried an alternative therapy by using some non-specific immunomodulators to manage bovine endometritis and also tried to find out the relation of thyroid and cortisol hormone on recovery rate.
