This volume of Erasmi Opera Omnia is the sixth volume in the first of the nine "ordines", ordo I being the "ordo librorum qui spectant ad institutionem literarum". De copia verborum ac rerum is Erasmus' treatise on "abundant" style, a work that had its beginnings in the period between 1495 and 1499. First published in 1512, De copia went through two more editions (revised and enlarged), before reaching its final form in 1534. Thus, drawing on numerous classical sources (literature as well as treatises on the subject, particularly those of Quintilian and Cicero), Erasmus eventually compiled a bulky tome, discussing the many aspects of copia and amply illustrating them with examples. The present edition is based on the 1534-text.
