In the recent past, the Himalayan belt has witnessed disasters induced by extreme rainfall events. In June 2013 multiple disaster involving flash flood and landslides struck many parts of Uttarakhand state, causing damage to life, property and geo-environment. Alaknanda valley was also worst affected where a number of infrastructure and properties were damaged while many people were killed in the same caused by persistent rainfall, flash flood and cloudburst. Accordingly, geological investigations in the area was executed by collating landslide, cloudburst induced debris flow and damage information in the light of possible causes and suggestions for future development. This book is envisaged to pave way for dispersal of the risk transfer measures and improved disaster preparedness levels. Studies of this kind are also highly important for one and all residing in the mountainous terrain and, should be especially useful to professionals in geology and geosciences fields.
