But looking through a country-by-country or village-by-village prism, the picture is not so simple. Africa’s landscapes and people are resilient. For instance, among the conservation myths the Global North has foisted on Africa is that its wild landscapes are being totally devastated by the encroachment of humans and their struggle for survival. This generalization may be true at some scales and in some places, but overall, Africa human-environment relationships, in fact, show both positive and negative trajectories.
