Carl Sutton is a twenty-six year old confirmed bachelor who finds himself a newly ordained, albeit reluctant, Catholic priest in a small town parish. On his second day on the job, he receives a letter from the bishop saying the church is scheduled to be closed due to financial cutbacks. Fortunately, it's the week of the county fair where the church's biggest fundraisers of the year happen. The plan is to raise enough money to keep the church doors open. Getting there won't be easy though, because along the way Carl has to deal with his cranky secretary, the screwball custodian who is convinced the Baptists are bugging their church, his feelings for Maggie, the beautiful church organist for whom he finds himself falling, Connie, his former girlfriend who arrives in town along with his mother, a pair of aging widowers who run the gambling ring at the local retirement community, and an international drug dealer with a proclivity for chickens. Carl's first week on the job is going to be a doosy, and he's going to need all the help he can get. Only Heaven knows if he'll survive it.
