This book was inspired by the authors love of horses and eagerness to understand how the relationship between horses and humans developed in different parts of the world. Horses in the Assyrian Empire draws on Assyrian palace reliefs as the primary source of evidence to systematically study how horses were used according to these depictions in this time and space. While most publications have touched upon the subject of Assyrian horses and have acknowledged their military use; we still know very little about their broader role and importance in the Assyrian empire. This book aims to fill in these gaps. The reliefs in this book are studied chronologically and according to a set typology. This methodology, which has been proven to be an effective way of studying reliefs, coupled with the authors knowledge of horses, will allow for an in-depth study and some very insightful conclusions.
