This study is an attempt to examine in a wider perspective the history of Jama'a emirate in the period Circa 1800-1903. This was a great task as the area is multi-ethnic and multi-religious in nature. Beside that, the research was conducted in the context of historical geography and the pre-existing socio-political and economic conditions of the area under study. In so doing, attempts were made to focus on political issues that influenced changes in Jama'a emirate in the nineteenth century. Colonial historiography deliberately ignored certain fundamental issues of the pre-colonial period that relates to the transformation of African societies. Ayandele in his 'Nigerian Historical studies' criticizes colonial historiography on the following grounds. These include too much concentration on the activities and interests of the Europeans
