Dr. Aliakbar Montazer Haghighi is Professor and Head of the Mathematics Department at Prairie View A&M University, Texas, USA. He received his Ph.D. in Probability and Statistics from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, under supervision of Lajos Takács and his B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics from San Francisco State University, California. He has years of teaching, research and academic and administrative experiences at various universities globally.
His research publications are extensive; they include mathematics books and lecture notes written in English and Farsi. His last book with his co-author Indika R. Wickramasinghe, titled Probability, Statistics and Stochastic Processes for Engineers and Scientists, appeared in July 2020 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC/CRC Press. He is a life-time member of AMS, SIAM and South Carolina Academy of Sciences. He is Co-Founder and is Editor-in-Chief, since 2004, of Application and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM).
Dr. A. Anil Kumar, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been at Prairie View A&M University since 1985. In addition to multiple research projects on topics ranging from effects of radiation on electronic systems supporting astronauts to a high school redesign project, he participated in several large scale research efforts. He taught a variety of courses from sophomore to doctoral level, in electrical engineering and physics. He conducted national and regional conferences on establishing business and technology incubators at HBCUs. He served on the external advisory boards of research centers at several universities. He acquired an experience at the international level owing to having worked in multiple countries, and more recently, as a member of the TMCF Team with Dr. N. Joyce Payne, during visits to China, Malaysia, Singapore and Ghana. He received multiple awards from General Dynamics, Harmony Schools, Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Texas A&M University System. His passion is teaching, reaching out to school students at early stages and developing project-based approaches to novel textbook development.
Dr. Dimitar P. Mishev (Michev) is Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria, where he subsequently became Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Differential Equation. Dr. Mishev has published many research papers and books in mathematics including joint monograph with D. D. Bainov titled Oscillation Theory for Neutral Differential Equations with Delay, published by Adam Hilger, New York, 1991; he has coauthored with Aliakbar Montazer Haghighi many research papers and 4 books and once book chapter.
His latest book with him as the author, titled “Delayed and Network Queues,” appeared in September of 2016 was published by John Wiley & Sons Inc., New Jersey, USA, and his book chapter with him as the author, Stochastic Modeling in Industry and Management, Chapter 7 of “A Modeling and Simulation in Industrial Engineering,” Mangey Ram and J. P. Davim, Editors, appeared in 2018 was published by Springer. He is Associate Editor of Application and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM).
This textbook provides a comprehensive, thorough and up-to-date treatment of topics of mathematics that an engineer and scientist would need, at the basic levels that contents of engineering and sciences are built by. For this purpose, natural readers would be junior and senior undergraduate students, who normally have the content of this book under different names on their degree plans. Also, engineers and scientists will benefit from this book since the book is a comprehensive volume for such audiences.
This book is written in a way that it balances both theory and practical applications of topics from linear algebra, matrix theory, calculus of multivariable, theory of complex variables, several transforms, ordinary and partial differential equations, difference equations, optimization, probability, statistics, theory of reliability and finally, applications from variety of areas of sciences and engineering.
