The study of heart rate variability is one of the most promising methods to assess autonomic function, which helps to predict cardiovascular impairment and dysautonomias in general. In the present investigation we tried to determine the variability of the heart rate in short duration recordings in apparently healthy young adults in basal conditions, finding that the variability of the heart rate in the time domain and of the frequency according to sex in five minutes, was greater for the male sex in both variables, the analysis of its variability in the time domain and the frequency in recordings of five minutes in seated and supine position showed higher values of all the variables analyzed in the supine position with statistically significant differences. At the conclusion of the study, it was found that there is a correlation between the variables in the different domains and there are no differences in the variability parameters.
