The Third International Conference on Health Care Systems Engineering (HCSE) provided a timely opportunity to discuss operations research and operations management issues in health care delivery systems. The conference took place in Florence between May 29th and 31st, 2017. Scientists and practitioners discussed new ideas, methods and technologies for improving the operations of health care systems developed in close collaborations with clinicians. Topics cover a wide spectrum of real problems which are challenging both for researchers and practitioners: hospital drug logistics, operating theatres management, home care services, modelling, simulation, process mining and data mining in patient care and healthcare organizations.
