HIV in children is a major health problem and its progression at an alarming rate is a cause of global concern. It is increasingly becoming prominent cause of childhood morbidity and mortality in India .As per National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO)1 the total number of people living with HIV in India is estimated at 2.4 million in 2009. Children under 15 years of age account for 4.4% (7% according to ministry of health and family welfare)1 of all infections, while people aged 15 to 49 years account for 82.4% of all infections. Thirty-nine percent of all HIV infections are estimated to be among women. According to UNICEF2 an estimated 290,000 children under 15 die of AIDS-related causes yearly.
